If ultramtramadol works by attaching to the opiate receptors how does lortab work?

Kali

If Ultram/Tramadol works by attaching to the opiate receptors how does lortab work?

Becky

Lortab is the brand name for the combination of acetaminophen (Tylenol) and hydrocodone. Lortab is prescribed for moderate to moderately severe pain. Hydrocodone binds to the pain receptors in the brain so that the sensation of pain is reduced. Acetaminophen halts the production of prostaglandins which otherwise cause pain.Lortab is one of the brand names for Hydrocodone...Hydrocodone is a semi-synthetic opiate....so it's binding to the same pain-relieving receptors as the drugs Ultram/Tramadol (even though Ultram/Tramadol is a synthetically produced drug and it's not chemically related to opiates.)

Roberto

I know of other meds that my DR has give me to EASE off of other meds.. Plz just ask your DR TO HELP YOU- DO not TRY AND DO IT YOURSELF.

Imogene

The human brain has several different types of opiate receptors. Tramadol mainly affects the MU receptors. Lortab (hydrocodone) affects additional opiate receptors besides the MU receptors. This is why Lortab is more addictive than tramadol.www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic/tramadwww.rxlist.com/cgi/generic/hydroc

Can tramadol come up on a urinalysis?

Quincy

my friends mom gave him a tramadol for a headache and he has to take a military drug test tomorrow. will that show up on a drug test?

Junita

Tramadol is not a narcotic. It is not a scheduled drug. It should not show up on the urinalysis.

Alma

Yes. Taking someone else's Rx medication isn't very smart. Pain medications have several serious side effects,,,,,Here is a link you should look at before you just take someone's medspdrhealth.comSo if you are being tested within the next 72 hours you are going to have a problem.

Gia

It might but if he informs them that he was prescribed medicine or took something then they'll look for it and it won't be so shocking or suspicious

Is tramadol more potent in immediate release form than slow release?

Steffanie

It really depends on the dosage. Any slow/extended release pill is going to give you a structured dose over the course of the day where as an immediate release will usually kick in within 30-45 minutes. If you have a 25mg immediate release that you take every 4 hours and a 100mg extended release you take once a day, they are going to be equally as potent. But if the XR pill is 300mg, then it would definitely be more potent. Hope that makes sense.

Clorinda

Extended release Tramadol comes in 100mg tablets. Regular Tramadol comes in 50mg doses. If you take 100mg extended release it will slowly release Tramadol into your system, if you take two a day it will feel the same as taking 4, 50mg doses daily. The only difference is the mild euphoria that you get from 50mg doses. You will get a more profound euphoria from 50mg doses, I have taken all kinds, I have been prescribed Tramadol for years. I have never taken more than prescribed and I think it is my favorite opioid (synthetic-opiate). Other people get absolutely no euphoria or pain relief from it. Oh well. To each his own.

Is 100mg of iv tramadol an effective painkiller?

Nicol

i am in hospital and i was getting 2.5mg of morphine iv (threw line into vein) 4 times daily. Tomorrow they want to switch my pain relief to 100mg of IV tramadol 4 times daily. Is this an effective painkiller or would i be better askin to stay on the small dose of morphine. They said it'll be what is most effective for me....

Florentina

Tramadol does nothing for me either except make me fell restless and sick... I would stick with morphine if it's helping...

Charley

I personally found that tramadol dose nothing for the pain. This may just be me also i took it in tablet form. best of luck i hope this helps

Buffy

Shawn is one of the people that gets no relief from Tramadol and there are many people like that. For some reason it effects everyone different. I on the other hand think it is one of the best opioids available. I am in chronic pain and have a tolerance for hydrocodone and percocet and tramadol is the only thing that helps. I take 200mg daily and enjoy the mild euphoria along with a chatty buzz that comes along with the amazing pain relief. I think IV Tramadol may be a good alternative to morphine since morphine is such a potent and rather addictive medication. If the Tramadol does not work the nursing staff should happily change you to something else. Feel better soon.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tramadol

Is taking tramadol in doses of 50 100mg dangerous if one is to do it for only a few days?

Gerald

It seems to me like any of the users that are getting into trouble with this drug are taking much higher doses than this. So is it really all that bad for you to do it at this lower, but still very enjoyable, level?

Juana

Tramadol's usually prescribed dosage is 50 mg. 3 times a day. Even at that low dosage people are becoming physically dependent on it. Search tramadol and you will find a lot about addiction and detox from it. If you have ever been dependent on narcotics or benzos, it's not a good idea to take it. If it has been prescribed for you, don't take more than what is prescribed, and not for more than a few days. Many people who became physically addicted/dependent did not take more than the prescribed dosage. I've done a lot of research on tramadol because I am in recovery, and it's gotten a lot of recovering people in accidental trouble. Why take the chance?

Kirk

DONT CHANCE IT!!!!!!!!!!!! I'VE BEEN ADDICTED TO PAIN KILLERS FOR YEARS AND YEARS, AND TRAMADOL IS JUST AS BAD AS ANY. I USED TO USE TRAMADOL TO HELP WITH MY WITHDRAWS, BUT IT GOT TO THE POINT WHERE I WAS ENJOYING THEM JUST AS MUCH AS I DID THE HARD STUFF, IF YOU DONT NEED THEM FOR PAIN, DONT TAKE THEM ADDICTION IS TERRIBLE AND I WOULDNT WISH IT ON MY WORSE ENEMY

I have not heard of Norco, but I'd ask your Dr. the best way or the place where you fill it. If you stop you will no doubt have rebound pain. I don't like a book|like the book what pain you suffer, but take it from a migraine sufferer. Hope you seek further assistance....

Tramadol flexeril and promethazine the risk of seizure can i take?

Darcie

I've taken 3 tramadol earlier today last one around 6pm. It made my stomach hurt so I took a promethazine around 10pm. Now, the pain is back and I want to sleep is it safe to take my flexeril? I don't have a history of seizures but when I check the interaction it says theres a risk for seizures. My pharmacist says that's only if you've had history of seizures who do I believe?

Annabell

i take Tramadol daily and I have taken Promethazine with it. It may increase the effects of tramadol and the drug interactions site does say it may cause seizures but i think that is very rare. You usually have to have a history of seizures for this to happen usually. It is also associated with large doses of Tramadol, 300mg and up. The Flexeril should be fine too. 9 times out of 10 the pharmacy wont tell you to do anything dangerous but sometimes the drug interaction checker will scare you. It's always good to be cautious though, you don't want to be another Heath Ledger.

Cassandra

I have a history of seizures and I take both Tramdol and Flexeril and it don't bother me at alll. If your stomach hurt when taken make sure you eat first. Sometime medicines hurt the stomach when taken on empty stomach.

Noel

Your safe, in high high doses of promethazine It could cause a seizure. I mean a ridiculous dose though.. take the recommended dose. The tramadol can cause seizures especially if you are prone to them.. but I am prone to seizures and have taken it before and it didn't cause me to have one.. but another time I took it and I had one. Then one different time I wasn't taking it and I had one.So. it's is your body.. I wouldn't exceed 100mg of it at once though, then you will incrase your risk of a seizure when on the medication.

Bertram

Believe the Pharmacist. It is perfectly safe to take the Flexeril now. You said you took your last Ultram at 6pm. Plenty of time to take the Flexeril. I take both Tramadol and Flexeril at the same time and have never had a problem. I hope you find some relief from your pain.

How addictive is tramadol?

Josue

I heard it's non narcodic so how can it be addictive.

Dorsey

it certainly is. medications do not need to be a narcotic to be addictive. there are online support groups and things like that. Physical dependence and withdrawal:Tramadol is associated with the development of a physical dependence and a withdrawal syndrome.[19] Tramadol causes typical opiate withdrawal symptoms as well as atypical withdrawal symptoms including seizures. The atypical withdrawal effects are probably related to tramadol's effect on serotonin and norepinephrin reuptake. Symptoms may include anxiety, anguish, pins and needles, sweating, and palpitations. It is recommended that patients physically dependent on pain killers take their medication regularly to prevent onset of withdrawal symptoms and when the time comes to discontinue their tramadol, to do so gradually over a period of time which will vary according to the individual patient and dose and length of time on the drug.[20][21][22][23][edit] Psychological dependence and drug misuseSome controversy exists regarding the dependence/addiction liability of tramadol. Grünenthal has promoted it as an opioid with a lower risk of opioid dependence than that of traditional opioids, claiming little evidence of such dependence in clinical trials. They offer the theory that since the M1 metabolite is the principal agonist at μ-opioid receptors, the delayed agonist activity reduces dependence liability. The noradrenaline reuptake effects may also play a role in reducing dependence.Studies into the dependence liability of tramadol show that patients are no more likely to abuse the drug than normal NSAIDs. Despite these claims, it is apparent in community practice that dependence to this agent may occur, but in higher doses and long-term usage.[24] However, this dependence liability is considered relatively low by health authorities, such that tramadol is classified as a Schedule 4 Prescription Only Medicine in Australia, rather than as a Schedule 8 Controlled Drug like other opioids (Rossi, 2004). Similarly, tramadol is not currently scheduled by the U.S. DEA, unlike other opioid analgesics. Nevertheless, the prescribing information for Ultram warns that tramadol may induce psychological and physical dependence of the morphine-type. A controlled study that compared different medications found the percent of subjects who scored positive for abuse at least once during the 12-month follow-up were 2.5% for NSAIDs, 2.7% for tramadol, and 4.9% for hydrocodone. When more than one hit on the dependency algorithm was used as a measure of persistence, abuse rates were 0.5% for NSAIDs, 0.7% for tramadol, and 1.2% for hydrocodone. Thus, the results of this study suggest that the prevalence of abuse/dependence over a 12-month period in a CNP population that was primarily female was equivalent for tramadol and NSAIDs, with both significantly less than the rate for hydrocodone. This means that the abuse liability of tramadol was almost the same as that of normal NSAIDs, such as ibuprofen.[25]However, due to the possibility of convulsions at high doses, recreational use is very dangerous.[26] Tramadol can however, via agonism of μ opioid receptors, produce effects similar to those of other opioids (e.g., morphine or hydrocodone), although not nearly as intense due to tramadol's much lower affinity for the receptor. However, the metabolite M1 is produced after demethylation of the drug in the liver. The M1 metabolite has an estimated 200x greater affinity for the μ1, and μ2 opioid receptors. In addition to acting as an opioid, tramadol is also a very weak but rapidly acting serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor.[27] Tramadol can cause a higher incidence of nausea, dizziness, loss of appetite compared with other opiates which could deter abuse to some extent.[28] Tramadol can help alleviate withdrawal symptoms from more addictive opiates, and it is much easier to lower the quantity of its usage, compared with opiates such as hydrocodone and oxycodone.[25] It may also have large effect on sleeping patterns. High doses may prevent sleeping.[29]

Is it illegal to take tramadol from mexico?

Lora

My husband & I are having a discussion about this (don't know how we got on it). I guess in Tijuana, Mexico they sell tramadol without a prescription. Is it illegal to take it over to border back to California?? I think it is & he says it isn't. Will customs be upset if you do take it back? If you just go ahead & declare instead of trying to sneak it, is it okay to take it over the border?? Please settle our argument =)

Arline

I gues the safest thing is to call U.S. customs nd ask the question before. As of what i know is that you can take amounts for your personal consumption.I am Mexican, i don't know if the same rules apply for US Residents. But you should be OK if it's an amount that can be classified as For personal use

Tramadol 50mg can anybody give me any information on this drug?

Josie

Hellomy Gp has given me Tramadol 50mg for back pain. Can anybody tell me what their experiences are with this?I have heard it is additive, can make you sleepy?I have take 1 tablet so far and feel like I am high, I feel like I am doing everything really fast, I am pain free though, is this normal?

Alida

Tramadol is an opioid analgesic - a strong painkiller. According to the BNF it can sometimes cause nausea and vomitting and constipation and some drowsiness, flushing and sweating and palpitations, and some changes in your blood pressure. If any of these occur and you are concerned, although these symptoms are known side effects of the drug, just call your GP or NHS Direct on 0845 4647 to clarify you should keep taking them.Tramadol should not be given in patients with alcoholism because of its addictive componant, however it is safe to take for short periods at a time. Hope your back ache gets better soon. :-)

The only downside of Tramadol is the fact that it makes you constipated. I didn't experience any other side effects with it.

Why is it bad to take tramadol or a painkiller with depressents?

Enedina

There is a risk that Tramadol could cause seizures and this risk could be higher for a number of reasons, one being the use if antidepressants along side. So it is best not to take them both.If paracetamol is not strong enough for pain, I'd see a doctor and get them to prescribe or suggest something better.

Im going cold turkey off of tramadol any tips that can help me?

Chantal

Tramadol is a non narcotic but very addictive prescription pain reliever. I tried weaning myself but my psychological dependence on the drug gets in my way. Do you have any advice or tips that might lessen the withdrawal or just make it a little easier? I'm taking 2 50mg pills twice a day, how long until the worst part of the withdrawal is over ad how long until i should feel normal again?

Sally

Some drugs are dangerous to go off of cold turkey, I would recommend you speak to your doctor about this first, but as for the withdrawls and how long they will last, it depends on your total body weight, amount of body fat, and how much water you drink. The more water you drink the faster you will flush it out of you system. But don't go over board on the water either cause that can cause a water overdose. SO try to drink around 6 8oz glasses a day, but not all at once.

Cris

I also go cold turkey, after 3 days of feeling like crap [night sweats, insomnia , unbearable leg cramps, generally feeling tired and irritable] you will feel somewhat better. It usually takes a good week to feel normal. In the meantime take some tylenol p.m. or nyquil at bedtime.xanax or valium is best if you have some. I find tramadol withdrawls worse than anything, even heroin. Good luck!

Arline

i was on ultram for 2 weeks for mouth pain and the worst withdrawal symptom was this light nauseous feeling, it passes in about 3-4 days

Carlo

Going cold turkey is the only way with tramadol...it took me 9 days to get over the withdrawal effects and normal again can be another few weeks...depending on what you were taking it for in the first place

Alayna

just stop taking them. You'll be fine. it's not like you are an alcoholic or a heroin addict. your body will adjust back to the way it was before in a couple weeks. When I quit smoking cigs I would chew gum or get a small bite to eat when I had an urge to smoke.

Chance

Does anyone know anything about the medication tramadol?

Alona

I was perscribed 50mg of Tramadol for my migraines. I was wondering if anyone has taken it before and what should I expect (i.e. can I function normally). There are a lot of warnings and so that is why I am curious to find out more about it. Thank you in advance!

Goldie

Tramadol, which is in a class of medication called Opiate Narcotic Analgesics, is used to alleviate moderate to severe pain. Tramadol works by lessening your body`s sense of pain. It is also used in treating pain caused by joint pains, surgery and other chronic conditions such as cancer.Tramadol works like a narcotic pain reliever. While Tramadol treats moderate to severe pain, Tramadol extended-release works by treating moderate to chronic pain (designed particularly for around-the-clock treatments).Tramadol can also be used for other purposes when your doctor recommends its use and prescribes it to you.

Kathy

Tramadol(Ultram) is given with NSAIDS and has a high success rate in treating migraines. It is a totally synthetic agent that binds to the opiate receptors in the body. It is also used for moderate to severe pain This drug is not classified as a narcotic. The DEA has considered tramadol for possible control.

drugs usually have a shelf-life of about a year or so. Possibly longer depending where you store it.

Joana

Expiration dates on prescriptions are usually a year after being filled. They will start to lose there effectiveness after that.

Clair

Expiration dates are required by law to be on the label. For prescription drugs, the expiration date is either one year from the day the prescription is filled or the date on the bottle, whatever is first. The manufacturor's expiration date is determined by the last day of their stability testing.

Has anyone ever had swollen legs from taking tramadol?

Jacquelin

no

Angelina

Answer: There are two possibilities. First, the nerves are damaged. This can be a peripheral neuropathy (diabetes and the like) or mechanical pressure on the nerve usually in the lumbar spine (spinal steno sis). Secondly, it could be decreased circulation. Both are easily tested by a CT of your lumbar spine, nerve conduction studies of the legs and non-invasive arterial studies performed by a vascular lab. Any moderate size city would have the ability to diagnose these. See a neurologist and /or a vascular surgeon and you'll have your answer. Currently, it doesn't sound like anyone is clear about your diagnosis.if this helps please vote best answer thnkxzzzz

Is tramadol worse or better than vicodin?

Coleman

My doctor just prescribed me Tramadol and I was wondering what it makes you feel like....and if it still has the euphoric effects of Vicodin. I'm not addicted to Vicodin and I don't take it regularly, so no danger there...but while on it I would be a little more detached and sleepy and if I didn't eat beforehand I would black out or feel sickwhat's tramadol like?

Annemarie

susieQ - I'm sorry, but you are not correct. Tramadol CAN be habit forming and definitely CAN cause withdrawals is stopped suddenly. It is a narcotic-like medication. Although it does not contain opiates it binds to some of the same receptors that narcotic medications do.The rest of what has been said it true. It definitely can cause drowsiness/sleepiness or it can cause insomnia. It can cause an upset stomach.

Arthur

I saw this question in an opioid-related search on Google, and about had a heart attack at the non-addictive notion. Mark is all too correct. Ultram -can- be like a Tylenol, but -can- and -will- make you go through Heroin-like withdrawals. I've been there. I was told it was safe. I'm also an RN

Chere

Tramadol is a lot milder so you won't get the euphoric feeling. But it is a muscle relaxant and so like most of them you may feel very sedated. Some people get knocked out entirely others not as much. Typically you don't need to eat with Tramadol the same way you would with Vicodin. I wouldn't drive until you've taken it a couple of times and see how it affects you.

Melissia

Tramadol (brand name Ultram) is a pain reliever (not a muscle relaxer) that treats serious pain, but doesn't have the sleepy side effects that vicodin or percocette do. I have used it several times when I was in pain before and after surgery, but needed to be coherent. While vicodin would make me sleepy or feel dreamy, tramadol wouldn't and would still relieve my pain. You almost forget you are on a severe pain reliever with Tramadol until it wears off and you begin to feel the pain again.

Maxima

they work somewhat equally as well for pain but tramadol trade name ultram does not have the narcotic component in it hydrocodone that vicodine has. More doctors use it because it is not a narcotic and lowers their liability because. But from some of the information I have read on it it can cause severe withdraw effects if you miss a dose or suddenly stop it. It also has been known to cause seizures in clinical studies. you can check it out by doing a search on the Internet or better yet talk to your pharmacist. Good luck. I do assure you that this drug can be addictive and can cause withdraw symptoms please see on the web medlineplus and it will tell you all the information that the pharmacy will give you. I have taken this drug myself I have personal experience. Best wishes but check with your doctor or pharmacist.

Hershel

Tramadol can cause some mild drowsiness when you first start taking it so be careful about driving. It does not make you feel euphoric. But, it can cause nausea if taken on an empty stomach so be aware of that and be prepared to eat something if it does.Tramadol is not addictive and does not cause withdrawal effects. It is a very safe and effective drug. The only instances of seizures have been in people taking it with anti-depressants.I hope you feel better soon.SQSupport Group for people with chronic pain from Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Arthritis, Migraines, Neuropathy, Lupus, and related conditions:health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Fib

Charles

It is too complex to say which one is better or worse. Both of these drugs have their pros and cons. However, when you are talking about more than mild to moderate pain, Tramadol (in my opinion), does not rise to the absolute pain killing effect that Hydrocodone (Vicodin) does. Also, you are asking about the euphoric effects of these drugs. Tramadol does not reward the patient with that feeling of well being than straight opiates do so well.Ultram/Tramadol is addictive, and some people do report euphoric results. However, for that old time feel good feeling, Vicodin easily wins in that department. Ultram doe not impart the party on feelings that Vicodin dishes out.Does Tramadol work better for some? Yes. Those whom prefer Tramadol over Vicodin, are substantially smaller in number.Ultram/Tramadol is good for mild to moderate pain relief. It works better for those who don't like that being drugged feeling.Vicodin provides pain relief and euphoria, for most who take it. To me, It is like a ladder. Tramadol is on the first rung. Higher up is Codeine/Vicodin. Higher still is Oxycontin and Morphine. And then..I think you get the idea. If you don't, it is probably because I use Vicodin. That should make it easier for you to read between the lines of my answer.

Golden

Well I was on ultram 300ER (tramadol) and 3 50 mg of tramadol per day for nearly a year for c3-c6 disc buldge's on tecal sac and a herniated L5 1 level above siactic, differnet route into outside thigh groin, but oh my. And a splash or robaxin and lyrica 25 mg 3x.Now I dropped the tramadol ( all of them ) for Vico 5/500 4 x a day w/ Lyrica and Robax and well not sure yet. Vico way more sleepy, may be getting used to it but I was on way to much ultram, 300mg is max and i was 50% over that.To me Ultram takes edge off pain, Vico dulls it to a numbing type state, but dulls you to. Been REALLY cranky past 2 weeks maybe Tramadol wthdrawl, or just me :) Well really been cranky for sure.I have decided yet which is better. Turned percocet down because I never want, or wanted the strong stuff, but now it's harder to manage the pain on a mental level. Good Luck all

Percodan? Vicodin? Ask your pharmacist about drug allergies and cross-reactions -- they know all of that stuff and they can recommend other pain killers for you to have your doctor prescribe.

It is NOT SAFE TO TAKE tramadol if there is a warning if allergic to coedine. When you were at the pharmacy, why didn't you ask the pharmacist about this. This is the pharmacists' responsibilities as well as your doctors.Did you tell your doctors that you are allergic to coedine? You need to tell your doctors, every time before he/she writes a prescription, because the doctors cannot remember everything.

Geri

I am allergic to coedine also, but have taken tramadol without any ill side affects. I would talk to Pharamacists about this today. But in my experience, did me good, not bad.You should talk to Dr. too. It all depends on what you were allergic too. IE, allergic to Tylenol 3 and cough meds w/ codiene but did ok with synthetics. Hopes this helps.

How many mgs in a tramadol ultracet pill that says o m on one side and 650 on the other?

Janiece

Also, what is the street price of them?

Coralie

They are 325mgs-37.5mg, and no you can't get high off of it, if you want to do this your self, next time go to pill wizard.com and you can find out the source of any pill.I never heard of anyone selling these, but the price would be very low, like maybe 75 cents not over a doller, but it's almost the same as extra strength tylenol, so why would anyone want to buy some crap like that? Now if you had Viccodon, percocet, oxy's, then ya, you would make some cash.

Cherrie

Tramadols street price is 7$ for 100mg....people dont understand 2 things about trammadol is 1 u have to take 100mg of it in order to get a high and 2. kicks in about 6 hours cuz of its release mechanism...i love trammadol it has the painkiller effects of vicodin without the side effects! cleaner to

Has anyone used tramadol on their dogs?

George

I just got back from the vets office. The vet prescribed Tramadol Liquid, for my 6 pound Chihuahua, because of a bad leg, and told me to give her 0.5 ML orally twice a day. I gave her 0.5 ML at 1:00 p.m. and she's sleeping now. Does Tramadol make them drowsy? Has anyone had any bad reactions in their dogs, from taking Tramadol, that I should look for or be aware of in mine? Did it help your dog and how? Thanks!

Jeanmarie

Tramadol will make the dog drowsy so until he gets used to the medicine, he will probably be sleeping a lot. The only side effect I know of is VERY RARE and really only happens if you give the dog too much of the medicine at one time- which is seizures, so just make sure you give the directed dose and write on your calender or on a piece of paper on the fridge what time and day you gave it to the dog- that way you keep track and don't accidently give an extra dose. Most animals do not have any side effects from the medicine, but sometimes an upset stomach can occur. Here is a link to more about it- I always like to look up what my dog is taking to make sure:b-naturals.com/May2005.phpAlso, if your dog is under severe sedation- like cannot be woken up with a simple shake- you should contact the vet.I really wouldn't worry about it though because side effects are rare with this medicine.

Bernadette

George B was wrong. It is not a morphine based drug. It is a synthetic mu agonist that somehow binds to the opioid receptor sites just like morphine, but it has a different chemical structure. The right dose (not too much) can really make your pooch active again if they have chronic joint pain.

Karly

I don't know about using it on dogs, but I'm prescribed Tramadol for chronic pain from a ruptured disc in my back. I know it makes some humans sleepy, so I would imagine it would make a little chihuahua very sleepy. I would watch his breathing, just to make sure the doseage isn't too strong for him. If he seems like he's struggling to breathe, or his breaths aren't deep enough, call the vet. In humans, taking too much Tramadol can cause breathing issues.

Eleonor

My dalmation was prescribed Tramadol for pain, as Metacam gave him diahrrea. He was exhibiting obvious pain behaviour, but we couldn't determine the cause. It made him really wonky.. You could tell just by looking at him that he was doped up. I worried that he was going to fall asleep standing up! But it worked.. He had three doses, and the next day was moving around again beautifully.

Debrah

Tramadol will make your dog sleepy.like any other medications you have to make sure your dog has some food with it, if you over dose or give too much it can affect the liver.Tramadol helped a lot. didn't need it after a while, but, be careful on how much u give, and just watch for anything that may seem like an allergic reaction, like itching, or any breathing problems.

Cristin

Hi, I too take Tramadol for chronic pain and it makes me sleepy and kinda dopes me up so I imagine it would have the same affect on your Chi. It helps me alot though, I hope it helps your girl too. The suggestion about logging dosage times is excellent. That way if there is a siezure or another reaction you can pinpoint it quickly should Dr ask. Also to the ****** that said arsenic, that was just plain mean and as far as I am concerned you should be reported. I'll never understand why people on here have to be like that, don't you guys have anything better to do with your time??? Hope your Chi gets to feeling better soon. Best wishes!

Matilda

I don't know about using Tramadol with a dog but I use it daily for severe back and hip pain and it does cause drowsiness. This is just a side effect and as your pet adjusts to the medication, the effects should lessen. I hope this is helpful

Leeanne

I lost one of my German Shepherds a few months ago & the vet had him on Tramadol for two weeks prior to his death! It did help relieve the pain so that he could rest! Good Luck to you!

Chi

Must have been a pretty bad leg injury. Tramadol is a morphine based drug with a strong sedative in it. Yes thats how they act, the whole point is to alleviate pain and keep them immobile. continue as prescribed. I know there expensive but shes undoubtably in pain or the vet would`nt have prescribed that.

Insomnia is a common side effect of Tramadol. Tell your doctor and they can either put you on something else or add a medication to help you sleep while you're on Tramadol.

I took a tramadol pill a few hours ago but I didn't have time to eat enough. Now I feel sick and pretty much generally crappy. What can I do to fix the tramadol nausea? What foods should I eat right now to feel better? Would a lot of mac and cheese make me feel better or worse?

Possible you are not able to handle narcotics....I vomit if I try to take them, so why not call your Dr and ask for something else.

Take half a tablet twice as often as you would take a whole pill. Take with yogurt, not something heavy like a Mac.

Tramadol or vicodin what is the best for pain relief?

Evelin

My moher, who suffers from osteoarthritis has recently been told she can now no longer take any voltarol or coproxamol as it is affecting her kidneys. She has now been prescribed tramadol but is a little fearful with all the side affects and worried about its addictability. Would Vicodin be better or a similar type of drug, or do you have any better suggestions please.

Kirk

Coproxamol has been off the market for several years in the UK. Vicodin is another illogical mix of hydrocodone and paracetamol, it is not available in the UK. Tramadol is a reasonably potent opiate analogue with a fairly low potential for addiction.

Elodia

I was on Tramadol when I had Glandular Fever and had Migraines with it.It was very good at managing the pain, but I found that it just knocked me out more than dealt with the pain. Though when I would wake up the pain would be bearable. You mother really needs to speak to her doctor about this.I think Tramadol would be less addicting, though both of them are addictive drugs. Again this is something her doctor can answer for her.

Eileen

There are people who respond well to Tramadol and those who don't feel anything. For me, Tramadol rocks. I love them. They make me feel real good (high), and not all spacey like Vicodin. I am 28 and have a knee replacement from arthritis. My doctor has no problem at all prescribing me Tramadol. I don't know if my doctor would prescribe Vicodin. Doctors are VERY weary about Vicodin for osteoarthritis. It is very addictive.

Marissa

Tramadol works for pain as well, lesser of two evils although either drug can be addicting.

Leana

In my opinion Tramadol is best for pain relief.

Can you take ultram tramadol and xanax at the same time?

Cammy

Can you take Ultram (tramadol) and xanax at the same time?

Anderson

Don't ask here - ask your doctor, and your pharmacist both. Here, you may get anyone claiming to be an expert, and you have no way to know if they're telling the truth, or lieing to you. You might as well ask your plumber for advice about doing your hair.

Oralee

This should clear up the question.www.drugs.com/ultram.html

Missy

I take ultram without the tylenol, and was told that i can take ibuprofren with it. If you are taking the ultram with the tylenol in it then I would contact a pharmacy and ask them. I am not sure what is in xanax.

Gaylord

you know what i say if the same doctor gave you both meds to take then he knew what he was doing

Freeda

what does it say on the prescription info sheet you were given with each medication...they give sheets like this for this reason....you could always call the pharmacy where you filled these and ask the pharmacist

Leigha

Tramadol is an opiate and xanax is a benzodiazepine. Benzodiazepines and opiates are well known for increasing the toxicity of the otehr especially respiratory depression. I would be cautious and speak to your doctor. Also if you have been using xanax a long time you can't just stop it as that in itself can be dangerous as you can get the withdrawals from hell like severe anxiety, psychosis and seizures etc. See this page www.benzo.org.uk/manual/

Can i mix 50mg tramadol with 10mg ambein?

Argelia

I take 50mg to 100mg of Tramadol for pain and take the Ambien at night to help me sleep. In the morning I take 40mg Celexa. Are there any bad combinations with these medications. I have heard of taking tramadol with antidepressants can cause seizures. I haven't had any problems yet...anyone else?

Lashonda

Tramadol and SSRI's are known to cause serotonin syndrome possibly. This is very rare especially when taken in proper therapeutic doses. The amount of meds that you are taking should pose no threat whatsoever. I take 200mg Tramadol, 2mg Klonopin, 200mg Lamictal, and 10mg Ambien everyday. I have never had a problem.

Garrett

To be absolutely safe I would say not to take the tramdol with 2-3 hours of the Ambien. Of course 100mg of tramdol is a moderate dose and chances of resperitory failure are minute, it could still happen if you are sensative to CNS depressants. So my advice is to continue taking both medications but not within 2-3 hours of one another.

Is it dangerous to take tramadol 5 hours after taking vicodin?

Marylee

I was prescribed tramadol but i'm scared to take it only 5 hours after taking a vicodin. Is it safe?

Tyra

tramadol is an opioid (synthetic opiate) and Vicodin is an actual opiate. Should they be co-administered? Probably not. Do I take them within several hours of each other? Yup. I would just be careful of the dosage. I would not take anything more then the lowest possible theraputic dose of each. Here are the facts...GENERALLY AVOID: Concomitant use of tramadol increases the seizure risk in patients taking other opioids. These agents are often individually epileptogenic and may have additive effects on seizure threshold during coadministration. CNS- and respiratory-depressant effects may also be additive. In patients who have been previously dependent on or chronically using opioids, tramadol can also reinitiate physical dependence or precipitate withdrawal symptoms.MANAGEMENT: Concomitant use of tramadol and other opioids should be avoided in general. Tramadol should not be used in opioid-dependent patients, and use in patients who are chronically on opioids is also not recommended. Tramadol is contraindicated in patients with acute opioid intoxication. Tramadol dosage should be reduced if it must be used in patients receiving opioids. Patients should be monitored for development of seizures and CNS and respiratory depression.

Major

It's probably okay. Don't do it every day. You may have sedation or other side effects. Eight hours would be better.

Evia

Tramadol in my opinion is never safe.... But if you wanna take it 5 hrs later is fine...

How can i find out if tramadol is suitable for vicodin withdrawal?

Chantell

currently dependent on vicodin. is tramadol an opiate also? i am trying to decrease.

Joella

Not really the same thing. You can safely call your pharmacy, or any pharmacy, and ask any question without telling them your name. Do not say that you are dependent on vicodin, as they will not want to discuss this issue. You can quit taking vicodin completely, it is not very difficult, just takes about two days. If you stop completely, the side effects are not too bad. Tramadol is same *** Ultram and has bad side effects, especially seizures. You should not substitute one with another, as this will not help you to achieve your goal of decreasing dependency.Honest about this: Try eating beef jerky in place of the pills, you will be surprised.

Alexia

Don't know if I'm too late. In the same boat and short answer is yes - you can use tramadol as a replacement for Vicodin. It won't be the same - and you will get some of the effects - but it will let you sleep at night. I know for a fact that that is an extreme relief for me...

Elliot

No. do NOT use trammadol. its will cause withdrawl symptoms to occur, and increase. I was taking it for 7 months, and JUST stopped a few days ago. I am now going throgy massive withdralws and its horrible. Quitting vicodin cold turkey is much safer, and will cause less withdrawl. Talk to your doc!!

How is it that tramadol ultram is not classified as a narcotic?

Latrina

All of the effects of Tramadol (Ultram) embody the definition of a narcotic, but it's always classified as a narcotic-like drug. What makes it not a narcotic?

Caterina

Erm. Not sure what above is talking about, as tramadol's principal mechanism of action is at the mu-opiate receptor, and it's considered a synthetic opiate. It does, unlike many other opiates, have very significant serotonergic and noradrenergic activities. This makes it a narcotic as far as the common usage and the pharmacological terminology. The difference is that for whatever reason, probably due to the above outside mechanisms, tramadol has an extremely low potential for abuse. Why? Don't know. But people just don't abuse it. There's a variety of explanations for this, all due to the very odd nature of the drug. Because of this, it's not heavily controlled in most places.

Laverne

While I agree that tramadol has a low potential for abuse, that doesn't mean that there aren't folks out there abusing it all the same. See here: www.erowid.org/experien and here: abcnews.go.com/Health/s

Evelynn

In laymens terms...Tramadol is not an Opiate when you take it, but once your liver filters it out, the remains that your body has to process is an opiate. That's why it has the effects of an opiate but technically is not considered one.

Neil

A narcotic is an opiod medication. Tramadol is not an opiod and therefore not a narcotic. Opiods are things like codeine, oxycodone, morphine and all the long-acting morphine derivatives. Tramadol is a one of a kind medication that is as potent as a narcotic in relieving pain but not in the class of opiod medications.

Can i take 2 pamprin with a tramadol?

I'm getting ready to sleep and am having severe cramps.. 2 Pamprins have 500 mg of Acetaminophen and the Tramadol 50 mg. I take the Tramadol each night for nerve problems. It's necessary that I take the Tramadol, but the mg it's at won't help my cramps so I need to bump up the resistance. I hate taking so much Acetaminophen.. Will it be okay to take them both?

Josef

Yes!!Pamprin is nothing more then acetoaminophen which is non-steroid anti-inflammatory drug much like aspirin. Tramadol is a central acting analgesic, acting on the brain itself. The two can potentiate each other. Just make sure you do not get adddicted to the tramadol, it is a controlled substance and has a simular mechanism of action like opiates (heroin, morphine, etc.)

I think you should be fine; you just might get a little sleepy. However, I am NOT a medical professional, I am just basing this on personal experience. I took tussionex last week for my bronchitis, and 6 hours later took a Vicodin for my root canal pain, and I was fine. But I should recommend that you check with your pharmacist or doctor, because the Tussionex says right on the bottle that you should not take it with anything else that can make you drowsy. I personally think you will be fine though, but it's always better to be safe than sorry, so I would double-check with a professional first. Feel better! : )

I have taken Tramadol for over a year and I am 100% sure that snorting Tramadol would have no benefit at all. Nasal insufilation can cause medication to be absorbed faster in the soft tissue in the nasal passage similar to the popular delivery of cocaine and various other illicit drugs. Due to the chemical make up and coating that forms a 50mg dose of Tramadol makes sniffing it less effective then actually swallowing it as prescribed. Chewing said medicine may cause it to be absorbed faster but the slight euphoria that is acheived with this medication would simply fade away faster. The best bet is to take the medication as prescribed in this case.

Deidre

Can tramadol or any other prescriptions such as vicadin show up as thc?

Elli

My fiance and I are totally against drugs, and I know he doesn't secretly smoke it, since we are both here 24/7. And yet as accordance to rules where we live we get randomly drugged test, and his showed up with THC in his system....so just wondering.

Rufina

While normally the THC test would indicate the use of a cannabinoid, here are a list of the substances known to cause false positives on THC tests:Dronabinol (Marinol)Ibuprofen; (Advil, Nuprin, Motrin, Excedrin IB etc)Ketoprofen (Orudis KT)Kidney infection (Kidney disease, diabetes) Liver DiseaseNaproxen (Aleve)Promethazine (Phenergan, Promethegan)Riboflavin (B2, Hempseed Oil)If he was using one of these, it is slightly possible that he would get a false positive on a screen. If they did a confirming CGMS it would likely confirm whether or not he had used cannabis. He might be able to ask for a retest if he avaoids the use of these substances prior to the test.

Celestina

If THC showed up in his test, he's been stepping out somewhere to smoke. Some people will say that being in contact with Marijuana smoke can cause THC to show up in urine, blood, or hair analysis--but that's been debunked. The only way for a test to show THC is if he's been actually smoking.Opiates (Tramadol and Vicodin) will show up as Opiates and Opiod derivatives.

What do tramadol pills look like?

I just received an order of Tramadol 50mg pills from an online pharmacy. I just want to verify that they are the real thing (from appearance). Yes that is what a real 50mg Tramadol pill looks like.

I am not sure about the 377, but they are very small flat white pills with the slit in the middle for cutting them in half. Trust me, you;ll know when you take them if they are the real things, they will knock you out!!!!

oval or round????...i was prescribed the same dosage as you i had to take two a nite and had to stop after the 1st nite coz i got really bad side effects..which they warned me about ..id would rather suffer pain than take them again

Ethel

It depends on the manufacturer. Some are round, oblong and oval. NEVER buy pills from an online pharmacy. Most ARE rip-offs. Call your local pharmacy and describe the pills to them. They will confirm that you have the right medication. In the meantime, don't take any until you know.I have to tell you in my experience, the people who buy online medications are drug addicts who do not have valid prescriptions. Otherwise....you would just take the script to your local pharmacy and get it filled. The DEA watches these online pharmacies and if you got something illegally....you ARE going to get caught. I wouldn't want to be you if that's the case. When you least expect it, the police will arrest you.

Brinda

I'm 45 yers old and currently on Tramadol for about 1 yearI'm Insulin dependentMy physician doesn't know that I'm on Tramadol,I don't drink, but what would happen if i drink alcoholthank you

Beaulah

There a few issues involved in your situation that relate to drinking alcohol.First, alcohol can raise your blood sugar, which may be problematic since you are diabetic. As long as you limit your intake to 1 or 2 servings, this probably won't be a serious problem.Secondly, celecoxib is an NSAID (the same class of drugs as aspirin, ibuprofen, etc.) On their own NSAIDs can cause irritation to the lining the of the stomach - for example, elderly people experiencing stomach bleeds while on chronic aspirin therapy. Alcohol is also irritating to the lining of the stomach. When you combine the two, you increase your risk for developing complications.Thirdly, tramadol is a medication that causes CNS depression, with symptoms such as drowsiness, confusion, and impaired coordination. Alcohol is also a CNS depressant, so in this case as well it can increase the risk of complications with the tramadol. While none of these are reasons to completely avoid alcohol, they put you in the situation of needing to be especially cautious if you do choose to drink. It's always a good idea for you physician and your pharmacist to know all the medications you are taking. This helps to prevent dangerous drug interactions and complications.

Chester

Your I.Q. would drop even further than it is now.

Brock

There is a substantial amount of research indicating that interaction between tramadol and celecoxib is likely----the implication being that they should not be taken together.Neither should be taken with alcohol.

Lurlene

Yes...it is relatively safe, but I agree that you should always check with your pharamacist on things like that...they can pull your whole list of medications and run a drug-drug interaction profile on them. Tramadol (such as Ultram) is an opioid agonist (means it binds to the receptors of the pain in the brain) while Oxaprozin (such Daypro) is an anti-inflammatory...means like celebrex / advil ... and works on the inflammation part of pain...as long as you don't drink while on those medications and not mix them with over the counter stuff such as (Advil - Ibuprofen..) you should be OK.Once again, check with your pharamacist or doctor when in doubt. Dude, this question is best answered by calling Walgeens or CVS. My thing is opiates. I could look it up, but you could call and find out easier on the phone. Personally I think it is okay, it might not be. Example Methadone cannot be mixed with Cipro so ask the man.

Lesley

Amoxicillin is penicillin, that makes me sick by itself. The other two don't seem harmful, but feel free to call the pharmacy to make sure like the others said.

Moon

You are trying to mix an antibiotic,NSAID,and an Opioid which is completely fine. You can call the pharmacy but Tramadol is prescribed with NSAID's all the time and Amoxicillin is not a factor at all.

How far apart should i space my vicodin amp tramadol?

Jeanelle

I'm on vicodin & tramadol, how long should i wait to take tramadol, two 50mg pills, after i take my vicodin, 10 mgs?

Edna

The doctor that prescribed that should be sued. When you take both, even hours apart, you get some mean respiratory depression. 100mg of tramadol on top of vicodin is a classic setup for heavy breathing. You'll also feel like its hard to swallow. This might not happen the first or second time, but it will eventually happen, especially if your doses are too close together. Call the pharmacy and ask. I'm not making this stuff up. I have taken both, but I'm a Tramadol fan. That's all I will take.

Buford

It sounds like you have facial paralysis on one side only. If its caused by the drugs its an adverse reaction as it only affected 1 side and you may have had a stroke or you may be suffering from bells palsy. It could be another neuro condition.Either way you need to get yourself checked. Go to the ER or see your GP and bring the drugs you've taken with you.

Alfonzo

I'm sorry to hear that. May it pass quickly.

Chassidy

All prescription drugs can have negative effects and there are few if any studies to show what the interactions are when you mix them with other medications. What did the instructions from the pharmacy say, or did you just poach these from someone else? You should only use medications that were prescribed for you.You should contact your doctor to see what might be able to be done. In the meantime just hope you didn't do permanent damage. If you abusing drugs, get help.

Elicia

No but a stroke can.

Tramadol and klonopin addiction herbal supplements?

Denny

I have been taking tramadol (Ultram) for the past year and 2 or 3 months, and want to get off it, are there any herbal supplements that will help me ? I am also highly addicted to klonopin . Both pills are doctor prescribed BTW

Alaine

I would not use herbal supplements with either of those drugs alone, much less in combination together.Go to your physician and let him get you off them.

How many mgs tramadol does it take to get similiar effects as 5mg of percocet?

Esther

Is tramadol even a narcotic?

Bernadine

50mg of tramadol (usually one pill) is similar to 5mg of percocet. It is sort of a narcotic, but a fairly weak one at that. And actually, tramadol isn't very addicting. percocet is MUCH more addicting than tramadol. But tramadol withdraws are much worse because tramadol is also a partial SSRI.If 1 doesn't give you substantial pain relief you'll be fine with taking 2.

Ardelia

Tramadol is an opiate based pain pill.It is just as addicting and more likely to kill you that percocet, which kills plenty of people. If you have pain other than from cancer you should not be taking either.See a chiropractor or other natural healthcare specialist and get off of this drugs + or didnt you notice that this is the alternate medicine board.

Boyd

It's a synthetic narcotic and it is considered highly addictive---you posted 2 questions about it which really make me think that you are indeed, highly addicted to prescription drugs already. Consider getting off those drugs alltogether and try chiropractice or holistic medicine...good luck
