Cosmetic Dentist Brewster NY Talks About The First Steps In Dental Implant Surgery
The first steps in dental implant surgery
The process of placing dental implants comes in various stages. The first step is inserting the dental implant into the jaw. This is done under local anesthetic as the dentist cuts into the gum in order to expose the jaw bone.
A small hole is then drilled into the bone and this is slowly widened to the full diameter necessary. Generally bigger teeth need wider and longer implants. If you are having multiple implants, a hole will be drilled for each.
The dentist then inserts the implant in the hole and screws it into place. This may sound painful but as it's done under anesthetic there is usually no pain.
Once the implant is in place the flap of gum that was left from the first stage is then stitched up.
