Each drug contains certain chemicals, and sometimes if you mix them you end up with too much of a combination, or a combination that should not go together. Just like you dont put a lit match on petrol cos they dont go together. You may or may not have done any damage, only your doc can tell by the dosage you took and the frequency. So for now try and calm down and get some sleep this weekend and write down what you can remember about what you took and when which will be helpful for the doc.

You may be more likely to have a seizure (convulsions) if you take tramadol while you are using certain other medicines. Do not take tramadol without telling your doctor if you also use any of the following medications:an MAO inhibitor such as isocarboxazid (Marplan), tranylcypromine (Parnate), phenelzine (Nardil), or selegiline (Eldepryl, Emsam); or an antidepressant such as amitriptyline (Elavil), citalopram (Celexa), clomipramine (Anafranil), desipramine (Norpramin), escitalopram (Lexapro), fluoxetine (Prozac, Sarafem), fluvoxamine (Luvox), imipramine (Tofranil), nortriptyline (Pamelor); paroxetine (Paxil), or sertraline (Zoloft)

I want to know this!?I was on citalopram last year and i had a knee op while taking it and was given copious amounts of morphine and tramadol after the operation by nurses.... I can't say it did nothing, because the morphine and tramadol made me so out of it i'd have no idea!!

Camie

ring a pharmacist in the morning? they can answer questions like this and you'll be able to quote what they've said to your gp if you need to.

Inger

GENERIC NAME: citalopram BRAND NAME: Celexa DRUG CLASS AND MECHANISM: Citalopram is an antidepressant medication that affects neurotransmitters, the chemicals that nerves within the brain use to communicate with each other. Neurotransmitters are manufactured and released by nerves and then travel and attach to nearby nerves. Thus, neurotransmitters can be thought of as the communication system of the brain. Many experts believe that an imbalance among neurotransmitters is the cause of depression. Citalopram works by preventing the uptake of one neurotransmitter, serotonin, by nerve cells after it has been released. Since uptake is an important mechanism for removing released neurotransmitters and terminating their actions on adjacent nerves, the reduced uptake caused by citalopram results in more free serotonin in the brain to stimulate nerve cells. Citalopram is in the class of drugs called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), a class that also contains fluoxetine (Prozac), paroxetine (Paxil) and sertraline (Zoloft). Citalopram was approved by the FDA in July 1998. Amitryptaline is a common misspelling of amitriptyline. If you experience symptoms of depression, your healthcare provider may recommend amitriptyline hydrochloride (Elavil®). This prescription medication is a type of tricyclic antidepressant that is thought to work by affecting several chemicals in the brain. Amitriptyline is available as a tablet and is typically taken one to three times a day. Seek medical attention immediately if you happen to overdose on amitriptyline. Symptoms of an amitriptyline overdose can include vomiting, seizures, and fever. (Click Amitriptyline to read the full eMedTV article on this topic. This article takes an in-depth look at the uses, effects, and possible side effects of amitriptyline.) Click links below for more reference regarding the drug information.

Is tramadol worse or better than vicodin?

Coleman

My doctor just prescribed me Tramadol and I was wondering what it makes you feel like....and if it still has the euphoric effects of Vicodin. I'm not addicted to Vicodin and I don't take it regularly, so no danger there...but while on it I would be a little more detached and sleepy and if I didn't eat beforehand I would black out or feel sickwhat's tramadol like?

Annemarie

susieQ - I'm sorry, but you are not correct. Tramadol CAN be habit forming and definitely CAN cause withdrawals is stopped suddenly. It is a narcotic-like medication. Although it does not contain opiates it binds to some of the same receptors that narcotic medications do.The rest of what has been said it true. It definitely can cause drowsiness/sleepiness or it can cause insomnia. It can cause an upset stomach.

Arthur

I saw this question in an opioid-related search on Google, and about had a heart attack at the non-addictive notion. Mark is all too correct. Ultram -can- be like a Tylenol, but -can- and -will- make you go through Heroin-like withdrawals. I've been there. I was told it was safe. I'm also an RN

Chere

Tramadol is a lot milder so you won't get the euphoric feeling. But it is a muscle relaxant and so like most of them you may feel very sedated. Some people get knocked out entirely others not as much. Typically you don't need to eat with Tramadol the same way you would with Vicodin. I wouldn't drive until you've taken it a couple of times and see how it affects you.

Melissia

Tramadol (brand name Ultram) is a pain reliever (not a muscle relaxer) that treats serious pain, but doesn't have the sleepy side effects that vicodin or percocette do. I have used it several times when I was in pain before and after surgery, but needed to be coherent. While vicodin would make me sleepy or feel dreamy, tramadol wouldn't and would still relieve my pain. You almost forget you are on a severe pain reliever with Tramadol until it wears off and you begin to feel the pain again.

Maxima

they work somewhat equally as well for pain but tramadol trade name ultram does not have the narcotic component in it hydrocodone that vicodine has. More doctors use it because it is not a narcotic and lowers their liability because. But from some of the information I have read on it it can cause severe withdraw effects if you miss a dose or suddenly stop it. It also has been known to cause seizures in clinical studies. you can check it out by doing a search on the Internet or better yet talk to your pharmacist. Good luck. I do assure you that this drug can be addictive and can cause withdraw symptoms please see on the web medlineplus and it will tell you all the information that the pharmacy will give you. I have taken this drug myself I have personal experience. Best wishes but check with your doctor or pharmacist.

Hershel

Tramadol can cause some mild drowsiness when you first start taking it so be careful about driving. It does not make you feel euphoric. But, it can cause nausea if taken on an empty stomach so be aware of that and be prepared to eat something if it does.Tramadol is not addictive and does not cause withdrawal effects. It is a very safe and effective drug. The only instances of seizures have been in people taking it with anti-depressants.I hope you feel better soon.SQSupport Group for people with chronic pain from Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Arthritis, Migraines, Neuropathy, Lupus, and related conditions:health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Fib

It is too complex to say which one is better or worse. Both of these drugs have their pros and cons. However, when you are talking about more than mild to moderate pain, Tramadol (in my opinion), does not rise to the absolute pain killing effect that Hydrocodone (Vicodin) does. Also, you are asking about the euphoric effects of these drugs. Tramadol does not reward the patient with that feeling of well being than straight opiates do so well.Ultram/Tramadol is addictive, and some people do report euphoric results. However, for that old time feel good feeling, Vicodin easily wins in that department. Ultram doe not impart the party on feelings that Vicodin dishes out.Does Tramadol work better for some? Yes. Those whom prefer Tramadol over Vicodin, are substantially smaller in number.Ultram/Tramadol is good for mild to moderate pain relief. It works better for those who don't like that being drugged feeling.Vicodin provides pain relief and euphoria, for most who take it. To me, It is like a ladder. Tramadol is on the first rung. Higher up is Codeine/Vicodin. Higher still is Oxycontin and Morphine. And then..I think you get the idea. If you don't, it is probably because I use Vicodin. That should make it easier for you to read between the lines of my answer.

Golden

Well I was on ultram 300ER (tramadol) and 3 50 mg of tramadol per day for nearly a year for c3-c6 disc buldge's on tecal sac and a herniated L5 1 level above siactic, differnet route into outside thigh groin, but oh my. And a splash or robaxin and lyrica 25 mg 3x.Now I dropped the tramadol ( all of them ) for Vico 5/500 4 x a day w/ Lyrica and Robax and well not sure yet. Vico way more sleepy, may be getting used to it but I was on way to much ultram, 300mg is max and i was 50% over that.To me Ultram takes edge off pain, Vico dulls it to a numbing type state, but dulls you to. Been REALLY cranky past 2 weeks maybe Tramadol wthdrawl, or just me :) Well really been cranky for sure.I have decided yet which is better. Turned percocet down because I never want, or wanted the strong stuff, but now it's harder to manage the pain on a mental level. Good Luck all

Does anyone take tramadol for migraines?

Myrna

I've read that it's an off-label use, and I would like to try something cheaper than my imitrex. However, one of the side effects is headache, so I'm not sure how helpful that would be.

Nubia

I usually stick with Imitrex for my migraines. Nothing works better then taking an Imitrex at the first signs of a migraine and laying down in a dark room with no lights on for an hour.

Mazie

Tramadol or Ultram is an opioid so this is what you would be trying. If you need and have had success with Imitrex then the Ultram will probably be useless to you. Headache is not listed in the physicians prescribing index as a side effect of Ultram.

How bad is tramadol drug addiction?

Christene

I have some friends who are taking some kind of pain killer which is called tramadol, and they are using it for pleasure.while being under it's effect they seem to be thinking normally but they talk slowly, and their reflexes are slow also.and their eyes look strange.they take 2 pills daily each is 100mg which makes it 200 mg daily.I don't know what to do, is it dangerous? should I tell their parents and let them stop it by force or should I try to talk to them to stop it peacefully?

Eden

Two pills a day does not make an addiction. Tramadol is a moderate non-narcotic pain reliever that comes in 50mg tablets. Should your friends be abusing prescription drugs? No they shouldn't. I am guessing that they have access to someones prescription and will probably run out of pills soon. I can not tell you if you should or should not rat them out to their parents. You are there and I am here, you have the inside view on what is happening and how they are reacting. I will say this, friends usually tend to get really pissed off when they are unnecessarily ratted on by their friends. So, make sure you are not being over-reactive, but do what ya have to do if they ramp up their irresponsible behavior and become a danger to themselves. You are in a tough position and your choices, like your friends choices will determine if you have a continuing friendship. Hope this helps.

Bennett

Any type of drug addiction is dangerous! Tell them you are concerned and if it gets really bad you may have to tell their parents

Brain

if their reflexes are slow would you want them driving? would they be able to stop quickly if a child ran out in front of their car? would they be able to react if one of their friends were hurt or sick? All addictions are serious and scary. I know it is hard to tell their parents and risk losing a friend but think how horrible you would feel if something happened to one of them.

Mercedes

Being that I took tramadol 50mg tablets on a regular basis for a back issue I think that your friends should seek some kind of drug treatment. Using this drug for pleasure and not it's intended purpose is dangerous, and that really goes for any drug. I was advised when taking my pills that anymore than 8 tablets in one day could cause seizures and other neurological problems. People are becoming addicted to tramadol because it makes you feel good, and it's a low dose. I think first you should try to talk to your friends about this and if they don't stop themselves then I would go to their parents. You should also find out if one of them has a prescription to be taking this medication because if they don't then it's considered to be illegal for them to be using it. In some states tramadol is a class 4 narcotic which is in the same category as vicodin.
