Is tramadol more potent in immediate release form than slow release?

Steffanie

It really depends on the dosage. Any slow/extended release pill is going to give you a structured dose over the course of the day where as an immediate release will usually kick in within 30-45 minutes. If you have a 25mg immediate release that you take every 4 hours and a 100mg extended release you take once a day, they are going to be equally as potent. But if the XR pill is 300mg, then it would definitely be more potent. Hope that makes sense.

Extended release Tramadol comes in 100mg tablets. Regular Tramadol comes in 50mg doses. If you take 100mg extended release it will slowly release Tramadol into your system, if you take two a day it will feel the same as taking 4, 50mg doses daily. The only difference is the mild euphoria that you get from 50mg doses. You will get a more profound euphoria from 50mg doses, I have taken all kinds, I have been prescribed Tramadol for years. I have never taken more than prescribed and I think it is my favorite opioid (synthetic-opiate). Other people get absolutely no euphoria or pain relief from it. Oh well. To each his own.
