Tramadol anyone taken itgood or bad effects?

Aletha

Brother was prescribed this for pain but we found out there are very bad side effects and its addictive.Anyone with advice, and is this similar to oxycodone? Thanks

Addie

yes i have taken it for pain, it helps you relax and makes you drowse it made me itch but i rather have that than the pain, i advise it if in unbearable pain because not sleeping and not resting can prolong recovery. It can be addictive if taken for long period but used sensibly can be helpful. if he has any other side effects he should let his doctor know. Im not sure about oxycodone anything with codine can also be addictive but if used for long time

Jeffie

I take it for migranes and yes it has side effects such as vomiting and no appatite. I always eat a little something before going to bed and never take more then prescribed. Ginger helps. Bananas help also. My advice is to try to get on something else for pain as it is very addictive. You did not say what he took them for other then pain. Try for something else asap

Quintin

tramadol is nothing like oxycodone. oxycodone is a opiate narcotic with highly addictive qualities. you can check both drugs out at webmd.com

Should i take paxil with tramadol?

Miyoko

I currently take paxil for anxiety, but also my pain specialist prescribed me Tramadol for my back pain, but I've heard this can be a dangerous combination? Does anyone know if these can be taken together- I'm fixing the anxiety, but am now back in pain.

Graig

You shouldn't take opiates with SSRI medications because of a condition called Seratonin Syndrome, which can be fatal. Does your pain specialist know you are on the Paxil? Tramadol MAY be okay, because it is not technically an opiate, but binds to some of the same receptors. If your pain doc knows you are on the Paxil and prescribed the Tramadol anyway, then it is probably okay, but you can call his office and ask if you are worried. If not, then for sure call and tell him. Here is the Wikipedia on Seratonin Syndrome, in the meantime: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seratonin_s

Dusty

Ask you doctor or pharmist!

Mallory

It's not reccommended to take Paxil with Tramadol. There is a risk for a dangerous side effect called seritonin syndrome. I would discuss this with the pain specialist and suggest another drug would be a safer alternative. <snip>Serotonergic Drugs: Based on the mechanism of action of paroxetine hydrochloride and the potential for serotonin syndrome, caution is advised when PAXIL is coadministered with other drugs or agents that may affect the serotonergic neurotransmitter systems, such as triptans, linezolid (an antibiotic which is a reversible non-selective MAOI), lithium, tramadol, or St. John's Wort.

Im going cold turkey off of tramadol any tips that can help me?

Chantal

Tramadol is a non narcotic but very addictive prescription pain reliever. I tried weaning myself but my psychological dependence on the drug gets in my way. Do you have any advice or tips that might lessen the withdrawal or just make it a little easier? I'm taking 2 50mg pills twice a day, how long until the worst part of the withdrawal is over ad how long until i should feel normal again?

Sally

Some drugs are dangerous to go off of cold turkey, I would recommend you speak to your doctor about this first, but as for the withdrawls and how long they will last, it depends on your total body weight, amount of body fat, and how much water you drink. The more water you drink the faster you will flush it out of you system. But don't go over board on the water either cause that can cause a water overdose. SO try to drink around 6 8oz glasses a day, but not all at once.

Cris

I also go cold turkey, after 3 days of feeling like crap [night sweats, insomnia , unbearable leg cramps, generally feeling tired and irritable] you will feel somewhat better. It usually takes a good week to feel normal. In the meantime take some tylenol p.m. or nyquil at bedtime.xanax or valium is best if you have some. I find tramadol withdrawls worse than anything, even heroin. Good luck!

Arline

i was on ultram for 2 weeks for mouth pain and the worst withdrawal symptom was this light nauseous feeling, it passes in about 3-4 days

Carlo

Going cold turkey is the only way with tramadol...it took me 9 days to get over the withdrawal effects and normal again can be another few weeks...depending on what you were taking it for in the first place

Alayna

just stop taking them. You'll be fine. it's not like you are an alcoholic or a heroin addict. your body will adjust back to the way it was before in a couple weeks. When I quit smoking cigs I would chew gum or get a small bite to eat when I had an urge to smoke.

Chance

my mum took herself off tramadol,I think it took a while for her to feelnormalagain, but she's fine now,,,just try and stick with it...good luck it will be worth it in the end.... :-)

Chloe

4-6 hours and you are safe.

Eun

I would wait at least 8 hours....My dog takes that for the same reason...but she does not drink, but it works great on her!
