How effective is tramadol for pain?

Belia

Got a prescription from the doc to take with my vicodin. Just wondering if it's good for pain? Thanks in advance.

Ericka

I have Spondilolthesis Ive been taking tramadol (ultram) for 8 months. Alone it's ok, 7 out of 10 but if your taking it with vicodin you should be right as rain....lol

Elane

It is good for mild to moderate pain and does work on the opiate receptors. I would try and limit the use of Vicodin though. You will build up a tolerace to this and over time it becomes less effective. I have seen too many people get into trouble with this. Good Luck.

Can taking tramadol have any effect on the oral contraceptives?

Pat

i am taking the oral contraceptive femodene and now also tramadol pain killers for back pain, can tramadol have any effect on the way the oral contraceptive works?

Ewa

no, tramadol should have no affect on oral contraceptives.Tramadol (brand name Ultram) is a pain medication. Here's what I foundFEMODENE 28 and other medicines Some medicines may stop FEMODENE 28 from working properly. These include medicines used for the treatment of epilepsy (e.g. primidone, phenytoin, barbiturates, carbamazepine, oxcarbazepine, topiramate and felbamate); tuberculosis (e.g. rifampicin and rifabutin) and HIV infections (e.g. ritonavir and nevirapine); antibiotics (e.g. penicillins, tetracyclines and griseofulvin) for some other infectious diseases; and the herbal remedy St. John's wort (primarily used for the treatment of depressive moods). The Pill may also interfere with the working of other medicines (e.g. medicines containing cyclosporin or the anti-epileptic lamotrigine). Please inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines or herbal products, even those not prescribed.Always tell the doctor who prescribes FEMODENE 28 which medicines you are already using. Also tell any other doctor or dentist who prescribes another medicine (or the dispensing pharmacist) that you use FEMODENE 28. They can tell you if you need to take additional contraceptive precautions and if so, for how long.

I am taking tramadol im just wondering if it gives a buzz or not?

Colton

Does tramadol give you a nice feeling

Chris

In recreational doses (up to 300mg) yes it can (some feel extreme euphoria from tramadol), but this depends on the person. Taking doses above that would be dangerous, even with tolerance, because tramadol can cause seizures at very high doses. Be careful abut addiction - this is a very real possibility even when taking regular medical doses, and withdrawals are very bad.Medical doses may cause some mild buzz for some people, but it would never be much to write home about.

Ehtel

No i had it for pain and it is very good ,but can make you very very constipated depending on the dosage so eat fruit and stuff to help it along.

Erin

my friends have tried tramadol and said that it took at least 5 tramadols to feel the buzz. so yes it does! hope this helps.

Andre

It all depends on your body, really.I tried tramadol for back pain, and it did virtually nothing for me, regardless of how many I took. It did not even kill any sort of pain in the slightest. However, for my mom, she takes one and she's loopy.

Has anyone taken tramadol during pregnancy? im 12 weeks and have been?

Shena

I am 12 weeks pregnant. I haven't been taking tramadol much at all, howver the last 3 days I have taken about 3 x per day. I have back pain and something was needed. Is there anyone who knows more about this issue, or has been thru this themselves? What was the outcome? Is there Birth defects involved?

Randi

I dont know personally but just found this website, hope it is of use to you.drugsafetysite.com/tramadol/

Genia

Hi, I am on my husbands account. You should be fine. Probably need to talk to your doctor though. I think the ones on the Cat C safe list are Vicodin and Balacet/Darvocet. Tramadol works by messing with neurotransmitters in your brain. Other opioids work by messing with pain receptors. It is thought that Vicodin and Balacet are the safest ones to use during pregnancy although no studies have been done on pregnant women. No reports have been issued to the contrary either. I do not like a book|like the book if there have been reports of tramadol issues. Check out this link of women discussing Tramadol use, the site some good information. forum.baby-gaga.com/about152715.html

What are the dangers of taking tramadol without acctually being prescribed them ?

Burma

They Aren't My Meds But I Take Them

Darren

the same dangers of anyone that takes them...except you're not being monitored by a doctor.it's synthetic opioid, which is why it's a perscription only medication.other opiods are heroin, morphine, methodone, codiene.the side effects of Tramadol are:*nausea*vomiting*sweating*constipation*Drowsiness*uncontrollable withdrawal-like nervous tremors if weaning off the medication happens too quickly*Respiratory depression in overdosing *Seizures have been reported in humans receiving excessive single oral doses (700 mg) or large intravenous doses (300 mg)*negative effects on cognitive functioning*negative effects on your personality*addiction

Blondell

death

Sandie

its illegal? lol and you arent being monitored?

Glady

Being an opioid, tramadol carries all possible risks known from other opiates. Tramadol causes respiratory depression, although usually weaker than that seen with other opiates and opioids. Tramadol can cause psychological and physical addiction similar to that of other opiates. Nausea, the possibility of choking on one's own vomit, etc. Those experienced with opiates can probably are familiar with these and will usually be able to handle them.

Sharita

Any drug that is taken without being prescribed by a doctor can have severe and adverse effects on the body. Many times prescriptions are given to treat ailments and to cure certain illnesses. If you are not prescribed the medicine it could either attack the body in ways that would be very unpleasant or be addictive to the point that you will need treatment to kick the habit. I would strongly advise that if you are having symptoms to which this medication is prescribed, you consult your personal physician or go to your local hospital.

Can i have a seizure from 50mg of tramadol?

Dorotha

I have no history of epilepsy, head injury or anything really. I'm not taking any drugs at all, including no SSRIs. I've never taken Tramadol before and i'm just curious if a seizure could occur from 50mg. Everywhere I go they always tell me the same vague information.

Laverna

So have you had a seizure and what has your Physician/pharmacist said to you concerning the Tram when you ask him/her this question. Look a simple aspirin can cause many people to bleed to death so there are effects from every foreign substance you stick in your body. Why are you taking Tram isn't it a pain pill and addictive?I did your work for you that you could have done a simple google search and foundSeizures (convulsions) have occurred in some people taking tramadol. You may be more likely to have a seizure while taking tramadol if you have a history of seizures or head injury, a metabolic disorder, or if you are taking certain medicines such as antidepressants, muscle relaxers, or medicine for nausea and vomiting.Read more: www.drugs.com/tramadol.html#ixzz0

usually seizures come from tramadol withdrawal plus 50mg is not that much... i'm not a doctor by the way so double check on wikipedia

I just quit taking tramadol ultram about 5 days ago cold turkey what do i expect next?

Bud

Please help this is horrible im in day 5 or 6 i cant remember but i feel myself getting slowly better. Im getting my energy back and starting to feel better through out the day more and more. I still have some episodes though. I just want to know what can i expect after day 6 of cold turkey.I am also drinking to help relieve the withdrawals. ANY help would be appreciated

Ahmad

A few more weeks of odd sleep patterns and occasional nausea. I really admire your dedication, because i tried to stop taking my tramadol and I caved in after about 36 hours. I talked to my pain management doctor, and he told me that in order to stop taking tramadol properly, it takes 6-8 weeks of slowly tapering down. He said cold-turkey causes worse withdrawals than any of the traditional opiates or opioids. It's because of it's unique chemical make-up. From what i heard it gets worse after a week, and stays bad for a few weeks depending on how much you took and for how long. I wish you the best. I'm surprised your able to hold down alcohol. After 36-40 hours, my head was pounding so hard, and I was so nauseous I couldn't think about alcohol at all.

Cannot sleep for a week help with tramadol problem?

Alessandra

I had been taking tramadol for 3 weeks, 100mg 4 times a day. And stopped a week ago. Now i have the common side effects which include: sweating, dizziness, diarrhea, mood swings change in body temperature from hot to cold (vice-versa), & sleeping for max of 3 hours!!!!If anybody knows how I can prevent these symptoms from happening please state. Thank You

Candace

ya your withdrawing from the tramadol. Doctors do not warn patients before we start taking these meds that we can withdraw off them. Withdrawals suck. Drink lots of water. That speeds the process along. Go swimming, Take vitamins. Try to take a walk if you can. You may need something like a zanex to help you sleep. If u have further questions please feel free to message me.

Dionne

Tramadol is an opiate. It will take a while for you to get it out of your system. In the mean time consult a doctor for meds. that might help you while you are going through withdrawls.

Is it safe to take tramadol 50mg and aulin 100mg together?

Jacquelyne

Hi,I'm in the worst possible pain I suffer from very bad sciatica, and I cant SLEEP, its gotten so bad, even my doc doesn't know what to do for me any more, she referred me to physiotherapy but there is a bit of a waiting list, so im stuck with this pain,I have tried all the painkillers doc gave me and they aren't much help apart for when I take tramadol 50mg and aulin 100mg together. But im just not sure if that's the best idea. Could it cause lasting damage or are the compatible to take together? Please help me; it hurts so much I can't think straight.

Clora

my wife is taking tramadol, gabapentin, ibuprofen, and oralmorph all together plus 4other meds due to brain tumour and its not doing a thing for her pain! my answer would be go to your dr and tell them you need morphine injections, or have what i had done after breaking my back and that was had the sciatic nerve removed . But please seek proffessional advice 1st

Jaime

yes it is safe

Ardelia

why as he not give you strip liquid morphine to take oral not injections said no injections incase you have morphine seek med advice if you have got it please

if your doctor prescribed them both to you, even on diffrent dates, they should be safe, or your doctor thinks they will be safe for you to use for a certain amount of time.

Is it ok to still take tramadol when pregnant?

Angel

Has anyone taken pain medication when pregnant? I have been on tramadol for 2 years now and Ive just found out I am 5 weeks pregnant. If I stop taking the meds I get extreme withdrawel symptoms. I can't go to my GP because he thinks I have come off them after treating me for the addiction. Does anyone know of any effects this might have on the baby? Im really worried.

Cierra

You'd better go see an OB/GYN and be honest with him. Better you admit you are addicted to the pain meds than go through the entire pregnancy and then have to deal with the consequences. Tramadol (Ultram) is Pregnancy Category C drug which means during animal testing the drugs did negatively affect the fetus, however, testing has not been done on humans. So category C drugs aren't used unless they are medically necessary and another drug cannot be substituted.Let your doctor know you want to have a healthy baby and you want to quit. Your doctor may be mad but he'll be a hell of a lot more mad later if you don't tell him. Do what you have to do. Most likely you will be weaned off the pills slowly and another drug may be given to help ease the withdrawal symptoms. You can do it.!

Cira

It worries me that someone who is about to become a mother cares more about her drug addiction that her baby. Tell your doctor ASAP or better yet stopping taking your drugs If you can't even sacrifice for your baby while you are pregnant how are you going to be able to care for it after its born.

Dania

Re: comment - you have no idea why this person is taking tramadol. Chronic pain, back condition, migraines? Prescription RXs for pain are easy to get hooked on and difficult to kick. Give her a break, she is only 5 wks pregnant and asking for help.

Peter

Questions like this should be asked to a doctor! Consult your GP and find out if this is harmfull or ok! I wouldnt go by strangers opinions when it comes to yours and your babies health! Make an appointment now!!

Alberto

Its says on web site medicinenet.com that the effects of taking tramadol durng pregnancy has not been establishedSee the doctor anyway - go to a dop in clinic if you cant seeyour own doctor - they should be sympathetic with you, youdeserve good advice

Desirae

that is definitely a OB question .. Since they dont normally see you until your 10 weeks you can still call the office and ask them abt taking tramadol.. the reception should forward this question to your OB.

Hai

Go to motherisk.com and look it up. It will tell you all of the effects of taking it during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Doyle

How are you getting the tramadol without your GP's prescription? I'm very concerned you're taking medication to which you've become addicted and are hiding it from your GP. The only safe thing to take when you're pregnant is paracetamol. You can't even take hayfever remedies!I strongly urge you to confess all to your GP immediately. Seek his advice as to withdrawal symptoms.

Aleida

No! do not take them.It may harm your baby.

Abraham

Risk Category C drugs such as tramadol (Ultram) should probably only be taken if the doctor OK's it. However, if you have been on it during the five weeks during and after which you conceived, it is a moot point whether stopping it now would have much impact. (The fetus is most vulnerable in the earliest stages of development to foreign chemicals). Take heart though, C category drugs usually do not have a bad history in this situation. Do try to work with your gynecologist to find a mutually agreeable solution to your pain problem or withdrawal dilemma. A naturopathic or holistic medical practitioner may be of use here. Use Yahoo QA to look for one in your area and for help on weaning off your tramadolGood luck and God bless!

Bethanie

Hon..I wish I could give you a definitive answer but I think this one should be left to the professionals. Please follow your drs advice. I didn't take anything in the early formative part of the pregnancy but I took strong painkillers from the 3rd month until the birth..due to a head-on car accident at that time, and then a spider bite at six months. My daughter was born 6lb 12oz which is normal, but her umbilical cord was a shrivelled up thing that looked like a piece of hay. The dr said she was not getting many nutrients toward the end, I believe due to my painkillers. Try typing Tramadol, pregnancy into a search engine and see what it suggests. I was on that stuff for gall bladder disease and hated taking it as it made me feel stoned, confused, and slow all day long. Maybe your dr could suggest another painkiller that will do the same job but be less harmful to the baby particularly in these early weeks when the baby is forming.

Ethelyn

Don't have a clue ask a doctor

Antoinette

Ring the doctors office and ask to speak to the midwife. The midwife will be able to answer in confidence and your doctor needn't know.

Alline

no, you definately should not be taking tramadol when your pregnant

Giovanni

My immediate response is where are you getting the Tramadol from as this is a prescribed medication. The answer to your question is that you should steer clear of Tramadol whilst pregnant and most definitely avoid it if it's your intention to breast feed. This is because you could be passing small amounts of the drug to the baby. You can go to your GP, but be prepared for a bit of a stern talk. He/She are there to help you and as you seem to be reliant upon the drug you must seek professional help to get you off it for both your health and that of your future child. You may well find that together with a weening-off programme (which will be professionally tailored to suit your needs) your GP will prescribe an alternative/complimentary medicine to run alongside the reduction in the amounts of Tramadol you are given. Please speak to your GP.

I have been taking tramadol for less then 2 weeks for a freacture in my foot why do i feel like i am dying?

Alecia

I stopped taking it when i ran out on saturday and i now feel like i have the flu. I am having obvious withdrawl symptoms, but why so bad considering i took the medication for a short period of time? I can't even leave my house at the moment. I am lucky that i don't have a job that i need to be at since i am out of work at the moment. I seriously feel like i am dying. My anxiety is also a lot higher than usual.

Garth

Because you are withdrawing off it. This supposed drug that a lot of people say is non-addicting and a non-narcotic. IT IS! Type in Ultram sucks on Google. The withdrawal can be worse than conventional opiate withdrawal. Most certainly longer! It has serotonin reuptake inhibiting properties that can make you feel like you want to kill yourself and all sorts of wierd stuff. Add this on top of the opiate withdrawal and what a cocktail from the bowels of hell. And the Withdrawal can last up to two weeks to 21 days with this stuff. It is bad news. There are a lot of people mis lead by this medication still 8 years after the fact. Good luck man. When I came off it I couldn't even lift a VCR remote. It felt like it weighed 100 pounds. I needed real opiates than to get rid of this stuff, there is no way in my stage of physical dependence I could have dealt with these Ultram withdrawals. The worse I felt in my life. And coming off 200mg's of Methadone that is saying one hell of a lot! Good luck again man, your in my prayers. You are in hell. And this is not in your head. Your brain is (pituitary gland) is not making endorphins correctly anymore, you became dependant on the drug just like a diabetic needs insulin. You need endorphins and your brain wants that drug blood level, Not to mention this stuff messing with your normal brain registries with Ultrams SSI properties. Your liver is burning the drug up; without it in your blood, your brain is mis-firing like an engine used to higher octane gas running on 87 and your feeling crappy. IT IS REAL! Ultram is notorious for bone pain. As if there is a inferno in your marrow. It is spooky. THrow them away and never take them again. Have this nurse get shot up with morphine 4 times a day for a week and stop and than have anyone tell her it is in her head! I hate ignorance like this and from a medical professional? Two weeks of constant use is enough to sink you. We cannot dicate when dependence begins with anyone.

Alice

your anxiety is what's causing your issues...you are right, you were not taking the tramadol long enough to develop an addiction, or even a mild dependancy...this is all the doing of your own mind.

Abel

Wow, well do a Google search for side effects from this drug or call a pharmacist and ask about withdrawal symptoms and how to alleviate them. That's a nasty withdrawal.

Billie

Will taking tramadol and lexapro cause problems?

Bobbi

My doctor prescribed Tramadol for back pain. The Tramadol is working great. However, I have read that taking Tramadol and Lexapro can cause seizures. I'm also on 200 mg of Lamictal. Should I stop taking the Tramadol? Other pain medications have not worked for me.

Edgardo

Me and Dyno always disagree on Tramadol, but he is right about mixing my favorite pill with Lexapro. Lamictal is a great medication to take with Tramadol though. Lamictal is an anti-seizure medication which is also used as a mood stabilizer. The combination of Tramadol and Lamictal is very calming and pleasant. You could get away with taking all three pills like the pharmacist said, but there is a risk of seratonin disorder which is a slim chance. Good health to you.

Alana

YES it will, you do not mix serotonin reuptake drugs! go to Lexapro.com and read and it specifically says not to mix Tramadol with this drug. Tramadol is the worse drug on the planet.I tried copying and pasting the thing but it didn't work, go on the site and read it yourself.

Tramadol?

Clarita

Tell me everything you know about this painkiller. I was prescribed with some for my TMJ (jaw pain) Do people use this drug as a street drug? What about dependance? And flat out... does it work? I have severe jaw pain and I was prescribed with 50mg. Is that an effective dose? Thank You!p.s. Personal experiences with this medication would also be helpful. Good or Bad.

Anastacia

Tramadol works differently than most narcotics, and does not seem to have the potential for abuse and dependence that narcotics do. In fact, it is not a scheduled drug. Narcotics, sedatives and some other medications are scheduled drugs, meaning the FDA and local agencies monitor the use of these meds very closely. Schedule drugs have some abuse potential with schedule IV being the lowest potential (eg. Valium), schedule II being the highest potential (morphine) and schedule I being illegal (heroine). Plus, one must have a DEA number to prescribe those medications.

Jimmie

Tramadol is classified as an spiate (narcotic) analgesic. That mean there's always the chance for dependence and use as a street drug. Tramadol is prescribed for the treatment of moderately sever pain. The maximum dosage per day is 400mg, with a 100mg per dose max. 50mg should be an effective does. I've given Tramadol in both tablet and IV to treat both chronic and post-op pain. It seems to work well as a pain reliever. It does have it's side effects. Constipation, headaches, and nausea are fairly common. Tramadol can also interact with other drugs (both street and prescribed), and herbal remedies. Your doctor should take a careful medical history, and should be told immediately if you become, or decide to become, pregnant. You should not suddenly stop taking Tramadol once you've started using it. If you decided stop using it, your doctor with reduce your dose over a period of time to avoid withdrawal symptoms.

Johnetta

I take two a day for back pain and it works very well. You can become dependant BUT the withdrawl is mild and if u really are hurting the chance of dependancy is slim to none. They are not generally a street drug because there is not really a high with tramadol, lowering the chance for abuse. I had a horrible doctor who prescribed me lortabs for nearly a year at extremely high doses and i nearly had to go to rehab to recover from the withdrawls. tramadol is effective and mostly safe

Annie

Funny enough, I have TMJ severely and I take this medicine as well. It works very well for me. I don't see myself ever becoming addicted, but then again, it can happen. I don't see it as a street drug, ever. It's just not a strong enough narcotic like street people look for. And, as somebody stated above, it isn't a scheduled drug. There's really no worry and there's not a reason for you to be concerned. Hopefully it will help for you as well. Good luck!

Kina

The same muscles are involved with headaches...Muscles get knots called trigger points. These make the muscles tight causing them to press on nerves and other thing.Pain can be referred from places other than the head.#1 The first thing is to take a couple swigs of molasses or eat a couple of bananas. They contain magnisium and potassium both of which muscles need.#2 WATER she should be drinking 1/2 gallon minimum. The head of neurology at UCDavis likens a body running low on water to a car running low on oil (the engine can seize).Get a good (deep tissue) massage (to loosen the trigger points) on the back, shoulders and neck. Make sure to press up at the base of the skull where it meets the spine. You rub or lightly scratch everywhere on your head. You will hit spots that are tender these are trigger points. The idea is to rub across them 6-12 times per session up to six times per day until they go away. For more information on trigger points read The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies.

Did anyone else notice judgment issues with tramadol?

Charmaine

I was perscribed Tramadol to deal with pain. I have polycystic kidney disease along with that I took two of them they are 50mg a piece and I felt as if I couldn't understand questions and that I wasn't in the right mind to. It also felt as if it was still in my system 3 days after the fact I couldn't see straight I was very moody and it was terrible. So basically I want to know how it effects my judgement and everything else any answers are welcomed.

Kristyn

I remember feeling a little bit dippy when I first started taking Tramadol, but I got used to them quickly and that goodness i did. I am much happier taking them than a full narcotic pain reliever. Although everyone reacts to medications differently and this may not be right for you. Maybe you shouldn't take 2 at a time. I started off on 1 50mg tablet every 4/6hrs.Talk to your pharmacist I have found that they always give the best answers!!

Kristy

Some adverse effects of tramadol are confusion, impaired coordination, depression, and mania symptoms. Also, since you are renally impaired, you probably should have just taken 25- 50 mg. Drugs affect people differently and I suggest you call your doctor and have the drug changed.

Tramadol and pregnancy anyone take this while pregnant? any more info than what the internet has to offer?

Mariann

I am 12 weeks pregnant. I haven't been taking tramadol much at all, howver the last 3 days I have taken about 3 x per day. I have back pain and something was needed. Is there anyone who knows more about this issue, or has been thru this themselves? What was the outcome? Is there Birth defects involved?

Alla

There are no adequate and well controlled studies examining tramadol in pregnant women, therefore tramadol should not be used during pregnancy. Tramadol has been shown to be embryotoxic and fetotoxic in mice. The effect of tramadol, if any, on the later growth, development and functional maturation of the child is unknown.Seeing as you have been taking tramadol only in the last 3 days it cant be for sure that you have caused any damage but I would say its unlikely that you have caused any damage to your baby. However you need to STOP taking tramadol immediately and consult your doctor for alternative pain medication as soon as possible. Don't stress! I understand back pain, particularly during a pregnancy, you had to do some something to relieve the pain but because the effects of tramadol in pregnancy aren't known its safest not to use it and ask the doctor for something else. Good Luck :)

What is tramadol hydrochloride 50mg? what is it how does it make you feel and what is is use for?

Deane

painkiller, 50mg is the lowest dose. It will probably make you feel 'numb' to stimuli and a little loopy

Reid

Tramadol is used to relieve moderate to moderately severe pain. Tramadol extended-release tablets are only used by people who are expected to need medication to relieve pain around-the-clock for a long time. Tramadol is in a class of medications called opiate agonists. It works by changing the way the body senses pain.Tramadol can be habit-forming. Do not take a larger dose, take it more often, or take it for a longer period of time than prescribed by your doctor. Call your doctor if you find that you want to take extra medication or if you notice any other unusual changes in your behavior or mood. Do not stop taking tramadol without talking to your doctor. Your doctor will probably decrease your dose gradually. If you suddenly stop taking tramadol you may experience withdrawal symptoms such as nervousness; panic; sweating; difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep; runny nose, sneezing, or cough; numbness, pain, burning, or tingling in your hands or feet; hair standing on end; chills; nausea; uncontrollable shaking of a part of your body; diarrhea; or rarely, hallucinations (seeing things or hearing voices that do not exist).

Tramadol is not a narcotic like other pain relievers such as percocet and vicodin. I've heard of people being addicted to it but it's not a true addiction like with real narcotics. Ultram, or tramadol is not something I've heard of being used to treat chronic pain, usually I see it prescribed temporarily, like for sciatica or a back sprain or something. You shouldn't have a problem coming off of it! As far as the length of time to use it, I don't know of any long term effects coming from using it all the time, but I'm unsure!

i have been taking tramadol for 2 years now and i ran short one time and let me tell you it wasn't fun at all. besides my back pain i was physically sick like 911 sick! it is very addictive! worse than methadone oxycodone or any of these to come off off.
