Can tramadol be used as an injectable for dogs?

Geraldo

My dog is on Tramadol, but it's next to impossible to get her to take it. I know it can be injected in humans, can it also be injected in dogs?

Omer

Yes there is. Have you ever tried putting the tramadol in the middle of a hot dog? a scoop of ice cream? peanut butter? Injectable pain killers are alot more money than the pills. You should call your vet and talk to him about the options. You might be able to find something easier. Or cheaper that will do the same things.

Andree

its possible, but you would need to ask your vet.

Noble

Your vet is not going to give you an injectable drug.Liability reasons will prevent them from do it.Tramadol is bitter but dogs usually will eat it if its in a pill pocket.Pill pockets can be obtained at the pet store or your vet.Hiding it in cream cheese, butter or a piece of meat may also work but first try the pill pockets.

I was prescibed tramadol zanaflex and vicodin but i couldnt understand the doctor can i take them together?

Corrie

I dont mean at the same time but in moderation of eachother, and what over the counter and herbal drugs should i not take while taking these?

Grace

I would definitely call the doctor back and ask him. A lot of health plans (Kaiser for example) also have 24 advice nurses you can call. You can also call the pharmacy. Most pharmacies have a 24 hours call center.Zanaflex is a muscle relaxant and depending on what you are taking that for, you are probably supposed to take that one reguarly. The other two are pain killers. I don't think you should take them together at this point unless you definitely know that you should because the combination of the two can be slightly dangerous. You can probably at this point until you know differently, take one of the pain killers and one of the muscle relaxents. This is a frequent combination. The drugs will also tend to knock you out so be careful when you take them until you know how they will affect you. Do not drink. Do not take any OTC pain relievers with those pain killers. Be careful with allergy medicines. Do not take any herbal drugs.

Ellis

its used for pain in the opiates..its not the strongest can make the tummy sick take with food..dont drink booze on it..or anything that messes with the c.n.s,...

Amina

I don't have any personal experience with Darvocet but i do have clinical experience. Tram and Darvocet do the same thing and they are both food drugs. But in my experience i have noticed Darvocet to have less side effects in most people. Hope this helps

Claretta

Tramadol is not known for fixing headaches--that is probably why the change. Plus the fact that it is a higher tariff narcotic than darvocet.DarvocetGeneric Name: acetaminophen and propoxyphene. narcotic pain relievers.Propoxyphene is used to relieve mild to moderate pain. The real concern with darvocet is not the Propoxyphene, but the acetaminophen (aspirin). Aspirin overdoses are far more lethal than an equivalent amount of Darvon. Do not use propoxyphene if you have a history of suicidal thoughts or actions. Propoxyphene should never be taken together with a sedative (such as Valium or Xanax) or an antidepressant if you are also drinking large amounts of alcohol. Propoxyphene may be habit-forming and should be used only by the person it was prescribed for. Keep the medication in a secure place where others cannot get to it. Do not drink alcohol while you are taking propoxyphene. Dangerous side effects or death can occur when alcohol is combined with a narcotic pain medicine. Check your food and medicine labels to be sure these products do not contain alcohol. Never take more than your prescribed dose of propoxyphene. Tell your doctor if the medicine seems to stop working as well in relieving your pain. Propoxyphene can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert. Do not stop using propoxyphene suddenly, or you could have unpleasant withdrawal symptoms. Talk to your doctor about how to avoid withdrawal symptoms when stopping the medication.
