What is the difference between tramadol and co codamol apart from the obvious ?

Dovie

I was on co-codamol, 30mg + 500, I used to take 4 each night to help with my back pain, the doctor has now given me tramadol 50mg, I must take 2 each night, how is it different from codene and is it better or not.

Hipolito

Not.I live in Iceland, although I'm a resident of the States. All we can get is Tramadol (called Tramol here). It bites.I suggest calling your doctor at about 2 a.m., then 3, then 4, to inform him/her that it's just not doing it for you... keep this up. Oh what I would do for good drugs. I've just got fish. Lots and lots of fish...

Has anyone taken darvocet? my doctor has had me on tramadol and has switched me over to darvocet?

Asuncion

I take the medicine for my headaches... I dont know much about Darvocet and I would like to know other people's experiences before I start taking it.

Ellis

its used for pain in the opiates..its not the strongest can make the tummy sick take with food..dont drink booze on it..or anything that messes with the c.n.s,...

Amina

I don't have any personal experience with Darvocet but i do have clinical experience. Tram and Darvocet do the same thing and they are both food drugs. But in my experience i have noticed Darvocet to have less side effects in most people. Hope this helps

Tramadol is not known for fixing headaches--that is probably why the change. Plus the fact that it is a higher tariff narcotic than darvocet.DarvocetGeneric Name: acetaminophen and propoxyphene. narcotic pain relievers.Propoxyphene is used to relieve mild to moderate pain. The real concern with darvocet is not the Propoxyphene, but the acetaminophen (aspirin). Aspirin overdoses are far more lethal than an equivalent amount of Darvon. Do not use propoxyphene if you have a history of suicidal thoughts or actions. Propoxyphene should never be taken together with a sedative (such as Valium or Xanax) or an antidepressant if you are also drinking large amounts of alcohol. Propoxyphene may be habit-forming and should be used only by the person it was prescribed for. Keep the medication in a secure place where others cannot get to it. Do not drink alcohol while you are taking propoxyphene. Dangerous side effects or death can occur when alcohol is combined with a narcotic pain medicine. Check your food and medicine labels to be sure these products do not contain alcohol. Never take more than your prescribed dose of propoxyphene. Tell your doctor if the medicine seems to stop working as well in relieving your pain. Propoxyphene can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert. Do not stop using propoxyphene suddenly, or you could have unpleasant withdrawal symptoms. Talk to your doctor about how to avoid withdrawal symptoms when stopping the medication.

What happens if im taking theses meds with tramadol?

Hollis

im taking wellbutin xl 300mg and lamictal 150mg ,,, so now i want to know, if i take tramadol for pain every once in while ,what are the risks? and to avoid health risks i was thinking of skipping my well dose in the mornin if that day im taking tramadol and maybe skipping the lamictal at night too so there would be no interaction between the meds. I want to know whats the safest way to take tramadol while on these meds , btw tramadol was prescribed for me recently for pain but i couldnt reach my psych to ask her if im okay taking them or not. because the doc that gave the tram presciption didn't seem to care if i was on other meds or not and he didnt explain to me anything

Lucilla

There are no known interactions between any of those drugs. So I don't think there is anything you need to worry about if you use tramadol for occasional pain. However, hormone levels and the such in each individual can cause other effects. So, I would suggest you take your meds as normal, and if you experience anything abnormal after a tramadol dose, then contact a doctor.Or, if you want a professional answer, call a pharmacist and ask. You can either ask your regular pharmacist, or go somewhere like walgreens.com and search for a store with a pharmacy, call them and ask.
