The difference between tramadol and ultram er?

I've been taking Tramadol 50 mg for a while, and recently my doctor prescribed me 14 Ultram ER 300mg, and says to take only one a day. Im wondering what are the difference between these two? Are they the same thing but one has more mg, or are they completely different? And which would be more effective?

They are exactly the same drug but Ultram is slow release of 300mg across the day whereas 50mg of tramadol will only last you a few hours. If you have chronic pain, an extended release like Ultram is probably better, giving you a baseof pain relief across the day, rather than letting it build up. By the way, Paracetamol and Tramadol(or Ultram) work well together and do not interfere with each other.Add- yes but with the 50mg, your pain level will go up and down (according to when you took the tablet) so if it's long term pain, I would stick with one 300mg tablet a day.

I take ultram without the tylenol, and was told that i can take ibuprofren with it. If you are taking the ultram with the tylenol in it then I would contact a pharmacy and ask them. I am not sure what is in xanax.

what does it say on the prescription info sheet you were given with each medication...they give sheets like this for this reason....you could always call the pharmacy where you filled these and ask the pharmacist

Tramadol is an opiate and xanax is a benzodiazepine. Benzodiazepines and opiates are well known for increasing the toxicity of the otehr especially respiratory depression. I would be cautious and speak to your doctor. Also if you have been using xanax a long time you can't just stop it as that in itself can be dangerous as you can get the withdrawals from hell like severe anxiety, psychosis and seizures etc. See this page www.benzo.org.uk/manual/

Ultram (tramadol is the generic name) is a narcotic because it blocks the mu-opioid receptor. This is the exact same mechanism of action as morphine, codeine, etc. The main difference is that tramadol is not addictive and isn't associated with quite the same side effects (respiratory depression, bradycardia, constipation).

Ultram or Tramadol is NOT a narcotic. Go to 10 different sites and at least 3 will call it a narcotic. The other 7 will call it non-narcotic. I don't want it to become considered a narcotic. I like the fact that people think it is just a weak opioid. This way I can enjoy the sweet euphoria I get from relatively small doses of this unique pill. 627 all day man,627....
