What is tramadol hcl acetaminophen used for?

Tramadol hydrochloride and acetaminophen tablets combine two analgesics, tramadol 37.5 mg and acetaminophen 325 mg.Tramadol is a centrally acting synthetic opioid analgesic. Although its mode of action is not completely understood, from animal tests, at least two complementary mechanisms appear applicable: binding of parent and M1 metabolite to µ-opioid receptors and weak inhibition of reuptake of norepinephrine and serotonin. Thus, tramadol has mu-opioid agonist activity. While, acetaminophen is a non-opiate, non-salicylate analgesic.Nonetheless, tramadol hydrochloride and acetaminophen tablets, a tramadol-containing product, can be abused and may be subject to criminal diversion. As for the prescribed usage, it is mostly given to relieve moderate, acute pain such as pain following dental or surgical procedures. Tramadol and acetaminophen each relieve pain, but they do so by different mechanisms. However, there is a high risk of seizure associated with this medication and patients must be well informed of it's any/all side-effects and interactions. Also, prescribing this medication, over 5 days of dosages for acute pain is unreasonable.Good Health To You!

Mammie

A centrally acting analgesic that treats mild to severe pain. The acetmainophen boosts the tramadol's effects. The effects also begin more quickly than generic tramadol and last longer because of the acetaminophen

It is a combination product used as a mild analgesic. Tramadol is an opioid of sorts, it is very weak and fairly unique. Tramadol is also chemically an antidepressant. It is probably the least addictive opioid and addiction is extremely rare and it is not a controlled substance like morphine, codeine, oxycodone, hydrocodone, and others are. Yes acetaminophen does synergize with Tramadol to some extent but Ultracet, the brand name for tramadol/acetaminophen contains a fairly small amount of tramadol, only 37.5 mg. Regular Tramadol (Ultram is US brand name) without acetaminophen comes in 50 mg tabs/capsules. No more than two Ultracet or Ultram tablets may be taken at one time.

It's primary indication is for pain management. There are a number of off label uses like:diabetic neuropathy, postherpetic neuralgia, fibromyalgia, restless legs syndrome, opiate withdrawal management / Anti-Depressant withdrawal aid (proven to be effective, especially with withdrawal from its distant relative Venlafaxine (Effexor)),migraine headache, obsessive-compulsive disorder and premature ejaculation.

Tramadol (INN) (pronounced /ˈtræmədɒl/) (Tramal, Ultram, Ultram ER, Mabron, Ralivia, Ryzolt, Tradonal, Tramacet, Tridural, Medtrap injs 1ml/2ml and tabs, Ultracet, Zamadol, Zydol, Zytram) is a centrally acting analgesic, used for treating moderate to severe pain.Tramadol was developed by the German pharmaceutical company Grünenthal GmbH in the late 1970s.[1][2]Tramadol possesses agonist actions at the μ-opioid receptor and affects reuptake at the noradrenergic and serotonergic systems.[3][4][5] Tramadol is a compound with mild and delayed μ-agonist activity.Tramadol is a synthetic stripped-down piperidine-analog of the phenantherane alkaloid Codeine and, as such, is an Opioid and also a pro-drug(Codeine gets metabolized to Morphine, Tramadol gets converted to M-1 aka O-desmethyltramadol). Opioids are chemical compounds which act upon one or more of the human opiate receptors(the euphoria, addictive nature and respiratory depression are mainly caused by the Mu(μ) 1 and 2 receptor. The opioid agonistic effect of Tramadol and its major metabolite(s) are almost exclusively mediated by the substance's action at the μ-receptor. This characteristic distinguishes Tramadol from many other substances (including Morphine) of the opioid drug class, which generally do not possess Tramadol's degree of subtype selectivity.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultracet
