I think that tramadol could be such a addicting and dangerous drug, why isnt it classified as a narcotic?

Tramadol is not a classic opioid (morphine-like) analgesic. It does not have the same addictive or abusive potential as classic opioids.It does have it's own risks and contraindications (see PDR below).Overall, it is safer and with less abuse. I prescribe it frequently.

Because it isn't a narcotic. Tramadol actually acts like the drug Narcan when taken with narcotics. It can be habit forming, both physiologically and psychologically. You do need a prescription to get it, and the patient should be slowly weened of it.
